Secretary Writes

Dear Colleagues,

Here I come again.

The seminar on corporate governance, auditors report and working papers was very well attended and highly interactive. Learned speakers made their deliberations with a punch of humor here and there and we had a lively gathering throughout.

The countdown has begun for the Diamond Jubilee Year of ICAI. I had the privilege of meeting the Conveners and representatives of various study groups in this regards. I was elated at the ideas put forward. I am honored to be a part of such evolved and intelligent individuals. It shall be our endeavour to make this year a memorable and eventful year for all the members of the profession.

It is time for Elocution and Quiz contest for students all over. I am sure that the branches would have geared up to organize the same and send adequate number of contestants for the regional level competition. For assistance please contact CA. Deen Dayal Agrawal, Chairman NICASA. (M) – 98100 28042.

I have received a mail from CA Rajinder Parshad of Shimla. He has expressed his concern over the issue of dummy addresses. According to him the members from Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana etc., are giving the addresses of smaller places like Parwanoo, Shimla, Mandi et., to get the CAG and Bank Audits. This way such members do get better audits but they are harming the interest of our professional brothers at small stations by falsifying facts.

I am with him where he quotes father of the nation , Mahatma Gandhiji that :

There is enough for the need of everyone but there is not enough for the greed of anyone.

I wish the message will touch our heart and fairness will prevail.

CA. Rajiv Shukla wrote to me and suggested organization of some practical workshops. The team NIRC is thankful for such an idea and very shortly we shall organize such workshops on meaningful topics. Brother Rajiv also wrote that members who are regularly attending seminars should be given some incentives or awards. Sir, I have to humbly submit that, recognition is the biggest award for a chartered accountant. I am sure the regular attenders have more member friends through interaction and therefore are better connected to perform better in their profession. That is the award which they take by themselves. I thank you for writing to me , kindly continue to do so.

Before I conclude, I would love to share some distilled wisdom with you:

As a boy, I was once presented with a narrow necked, large glass jar that contained in it a large pumpkin. The pumpkin was so large and the neck of the jar so narrow that I could not for the love of the world figure out how the pumpkin had been put in. My bafflement continued when ever I glanced at the jar, until months later on visiting the persons, I came upon several similar glass jars in his garden into whose narrow neck was slipped a tiny green pumpkin still on the vine! How often we see intelligent young men and women (tiny pumpkin) who are the victims of vices (glass jar) that have imperceptibly grown on them since childhood. The pumpkin in the jar gives us a clue, The most urgent need of the hour is to hold fast to our sense of basic values, It is so easy for small vices to imperceptibly grow on us. Don’t let , false prestige and falsehood grow on you.

God has a master plan for each one of us. BE YOURSELF- THAT IS WHERE THE MAGIC LIES.

I wish to share a thought by Frank outlaw:
Watch your thoughts; they become words,
Watch your words; they become actions
Watch your actions, they become habits,
Watch your habits, they become character
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

By the time you receive this newsletter I shall be at Srinagar with members to attend the residential seminar. I shall tell you more about the residential course, when I am back.

Till then, keep smiling and keep winning in life, on a daily basis,

Thanking You,

Yours sincerely,
June 7, 2008
